What is a shalamar?

Shalamar is an American R&B and soul music group that was formed in the late 1970s. The group originally consisted of members Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel, and Gerald Brown. They gained popularity in the early 1980s with hits such as "The Second Time Around", "Make That Move", and "A Night to Remember".

Shalamar was known for their soulful vocals, catchy melodies, and dynamic dance routines. They were also noted for their stylish and glamorous image, often wearing flashy costumes and performing elaborate choreography in their music videos and live performances.

The group went through several lineup changes over the years, with different members joining and leaving. In the mid-1980s, Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel left the group to pursue solo careers, while Howard Hewett joined as the new lead singer.

Shalamar continued to release music and tour throughout the 1980s and 1990s, maintaining a loyal fan base and cementing their legacy as one of the iconic R&B groups of the era. They were inducted into the SoulMusic Hall of Fame in 2016.

Despite the changes in lineup and musical trends over the years, Shalamar's music continues to be celebrated for its timeless appeal and influence on contemporary R&B and dance music.
